Cat's Corner
Blogging About Books, Writing, Travel, Film & More
I'm motoring 3 hours west to Charlotte, NC, this weekend to attend to my regional Society of Children's Book Writers and illustrators (SCBWI) conference. This international organization is THE group for people who love writing and drawing kids' books.
For me, conferences mean non-stop learning, workshops, and connections with other creatives in person instead of in cyberspace. Plus, I'm meeting my illustrator, Irene A. Jahns, who lives nearby the conference site. Woot, woot! To mark the occasion, I penned another R*A*P---Really Awful Poem. Please have a read if you dare. Then scroll to the end for a serious resource list resource to help you crush your next professional conference.
R*A*P...Really Awful Poem
Writers' Conference R*A*P by Cat Michaels With apologies to... Disney, The Hunger Games, and true poets everywhere.
Hi ho, hi ho!
It's off to conference we go! Buckled up and Charlotte bound, My trusty GPS the route to be found.
So many peeps to greet.
Tons of ideas to tweet. Notes to take and ideas to share As we talk and gather there.
Plus,
........scores of awesome books to see. Hey, maybe sell a few Finding Fuzzy and Sweet T?!?! I'm feeling excitement in the air! When I wish upon a star for my Red-Eye Critique group to take us far With its unique late-night tweaks of our manuscripts to offer, So we'll write best-selling Kid Lit tales to fill our coffer <wink wink>. I'm also lunching with Irene, my Illustrator Supreme, Who lives nearby the conference scene. Can't wait til we publish Sweet T & the Turtle Team this spring. It takes a village to tackle a creative thing!
Well, no idea how to end this RAP.
So I'll just give one last tap and say: May the conference odds forever favor your way!
