Blogging About Books, Writing, Travel, Film & More
Life has a way of taking its own course, and I’m learning to roll with it on the writing road. I discovered that big time with my newest book, The Magical Aquarium, on sale in i-Tunes starting 5 December. It's the first of many tales I hope to add there, as well as on Amazon and other bookstores.
I wasn’t planning to publish Aquarium, let alone have it ready for holiday release. After all, I was working on Sweet T and the Turtle Team, my third book in the Sweet T Tales Series. But things came together and Aquarium pushed ahead.
This book started out as a short story for a much-loved child about caring for ocean creatures, but it morphed into a life of its own. Characters came alive in my mind. Its sense of fun and whimsy took over the keyboard, and I couldn’t stop writing. See for yourself.... There was joy writing this tale, but I also had periods of crushing doubt. Spells of What-Have-I-Gotten-Myself-Into! Gulp. How did I think I could learn epub language and formatting required for digital books? It took a solid two weeks of intense study and practice, but I-books author software and Apple tech support came to the rescue. More gulps: being art-challenged, I spent restless nights wondering how to come up with the perfect illustrated centerpiece. UK artist Corrina Holyoake stepped in with her colorful drawing that makes me smile just thinking about it. Plus, thinking about marketing my book on a shoestring budget in a competitve market - without that tiresome buy-my-book sales pitch - keeps me up at night. Is it the right message? And the best platform to reach readers? Am I pushing too much? Or should I be more aggressive? Will readers find my tale? Will kids enjoy and learn from it? Argh! I make myself crazy with doubt and worry. It was knowing readers like YOU were ready for another Catly tale. YOUR support pushes doubt aside, pumps me, and keeps me going. I hope you enjoy a sample of my new book and consider downloading your copy of The Magical Aquarium for your young readers. If you enjoy my book, I’d be grateful for your feedback and honest review on i-Tunes, as simple as you wish to write. If you wonder why authors ask, a positive book review is one of the single most-important factors book sites like Apple and Amazon use to find promising new books and promote them. Plus, your review helps other readers decide what books they should purchase. So, your honest review is hugely precious! btw... I'm posting my final blog of the year next week. After that, I’m taking time away from Cat’s Corner until 9 January to be with family for the holidays.
Thanks for stopping by. Like what you see?
