Sometimes, the universe serves up events in THE perfect way.

PictureBooks for baby
Take this sweet invitation I just received for my niece’s baby shower -- a brilliant way to get kids hooked on books right from the start!  (Baby L. arriving in April...Happy Auntie!)

Please bring a book instead of a card....
Baby will become
very smart, indeed,
if we start early,
she will soon learn to read.

Then I received a different kind of invitation from my blogging buddies and jumped at the chance they offered..  I'm joining them in observing Valentine’s Day on 14 February in a different way.  Instead of chocolates and cards, we’re hosting a
Blog Hop and Giveaway for International Book Giving Day.

Yep.  From now until midnight, ET, 15 February 2017, you’ll have
a chance to win one of 14 Kid Lit/family-friendly softcover books and 4 E-books!  (Details at the end of this post)

Besides our giveaway, bookgivingday.com suggests other ways YOU can observe this day and spread book love to children:

Love this Cat! We did this same thing as a book giveaway a year ago for our niece instead of a card. Such a wonderful treasure for them!

Such great ideas for sharing books for "International Book Giving Day!" Spreading the love of reading is always a win, win!

I love the idea of giving books instead of a card. My cousin is a teacher and she did this for her baby shower. She received a wonderful collection of books. Of course, she had a "special" request from me, however I made sure to take along some of my other favorites as well. ;)

K., your cousin is a wise mom and teacher. I agree... the act of "giving" books is fulfilling and almost as delightful as "receiving" them.

Love that more and more people are asking for books in place of a card. The gals who threw my showers did this for me, and it means so much every time I open a book to read to my little to see that hand written note to him.

Here's to the love of books! May it keep growing stronger each and every year!
